Assessment of Nyambogo Well Use
Michael Flanagan, Peter Stiver, Thaddaeus Voss
While in the village of Nyambogo, we visited a deep water well that Engineers Without Borders built in partnership with Village Life Outreach. Our primary goal was to find out how effective the deep well has been since the last visit from Engineers Without Borders representatives. In addition to examining the usefulness, we were interested in finding out the reasons behind several discrepancies in the income generated by the well and the amount of water that had been sold. After meeting with the Nyambogo Water Committee—the owning organization, we found out that the well was still running very effectively and that the discrepancies came about as a result of several unforeseen events: water wasted during water filling, water given freely to travelers and school children, and water used for cleaning the facility. |
